that is so awesome! What an amazing opportunity... Hey, I know we haven't talked in ages, but I have been meaning to get hold of you. We are having a small graduation party the weekend of June 24th, and I wanted to see if you could make it. I have no idea who is coming as of now, but I am trying to convince Alex to drive up, so it can be a tiny reunion of sorts. Anyway, let me know :)
Hopefully I will be in Japan then. I'm leaving on the 22 for Dallas and then from Dallas to Osaka. Standby so hopefully the flights aren't too full, otherwise...I've always wanted to spend time in Texas. Haha.
Someday you'll need to explain to me the significance of these foreign schools/programs. To my knowledge, the largest and most intricate film programs are all base in the US. You even took classes based on US films while in England (unless I'm really not remembering properly).
What is the benefit of traveling to another country to study a subject that is based here?
I don't doubt the benefit, as you're far more knowledgable on this subject and I'll talk your view as the expert opinion. But I'd like some insight to enlighten me.
Film and much of the movements began in France and elsewhere in Europe. Plus, the major benefit is when you are out of the country studying film from another perspective is that you don't get trapped in the Hollywood model, which as I'm sure we all know by now...is oh so predictable. Basically there are some awesome foreign films out there that get no screen time in the US and...film is not based in the US, we just don't let anything into the US so no one knows any better than Hollywood unless you look for it.
Plus, its a kick ass excuse to get out of the country and see the world! =)
