I know I am the same way. When I am sick I was pity but for goodness sakes leave me alone to wallow in my misery. Irritating me by hover is just not an option... in fact it just puts me in a more miserable mood.
Growing up my parents were pretty good about letting us stay home. But then my mother was mostly a stay at home mom until I hit around grade 5 or sick so it was easier that way. Plus we would more often be told to stay home from school rather than us asking for it. I remember even as I got older and hit high school that I never stayed home or skipped a class without my parents permission. lol :)
We were raised the same way. We had to just plug along for we couldn't stay home alone and either of my parents staying home was not an option. If they saw that we were actually very sick (fever, vomitting, chickenpox) then we were taken to work with them and we would sleep either the shade of the trees or with the doors & windows open to the station wagon as my parents were Migrant workers and went out picking crops. If my parents were ill, they would just deal with it and get to work. I never saw them slow down or show signs of being sick, but I am sure they had plenty of sick times
