Anime Coloring and Animation Tutorial [Yami no Yuugi & Anzu]

May 21, 2007 09:12

I just realized it's been forever since I've done any tutorials! :O

Learn how to go from this and this to
in PS 7

First, I opened the two images. Taking one, I copy/pasted it over the other so that I had two layers. This makes it easier when cropping so that the two images aren't different sizes. So, crop your image to 100x100 pxl, and use Auto Contrast, and sharpen once. The original image was also kind of dark, so I brightened it by creating a curves layer. This will depend for each icon.

Now, deselect the second layer. We'll come back to that one in a moment. Instead, duplicate the bottom layer, and set it on overlay, 100%.

Next, add a new flood fill layer in #19274E, and set it on exclusion, 100%.

Now, add another flood fill layer in #F2E5D2 (#F2E5D2), and set it to multiply, 100%.

Add one more flood layer, this time in #F1CBFC, and set it to colorburn, 100%.

Duplicate the base again, and set it to softlight, 100%.

Create an adjustment layer in Selective Color. Imput these settings:
Reds:
(c) -100, (m) 0, (y) -35, (b) 0

Yellows:
(c) -100, (m) 0, (y) -30, (b) 0

Cyans:
(c) +100, (m) +20, (y) -20, (b) 0

Neutrals
(c) 0, (m) -15, (y) -25, (b) 0

Set the layer to normal, 100%

Follow steps 2-7 for the second base. You should now have two versions of the same coloring. My layer pallet looked like this.

And now for the animation. First thing we do is merge the layers so that you only have one layer for each image. Kinda like this. Then, you'll want to transfer the document to Image Ready. You can do this by clicking this button on the tool bar.

Once you're in Image Ready, your setup should look sorta like this, or however you're used to the setup. From here, you need to create a new frame. In the first frame, you'll want only one layer visible/selected. In the second, you'll want both layers visble. However, make sure that the top layer in the second frame is different than the layer in the first frame (like this). Once you've got the two frames created, you'll want to set up a tween between them. I used three frames between each original frame (like this). Set the timing of your choice, then save using the Optimization Settings, and you're finished!

If you have any questions, feel free to ask! Lemme know what you get out of the tutorial, but please don't copy the icon completely. :D
