This country has a ridiculous list of disease and health problems for its children. Why do we have children with diabetes, for crying out loud! Why do we have sick children in a first world country? Kids still die from ecoli!
The food we eat are all basically crap, that's why. Everything in the grocery stores are made to be cheaper, not made to be nutritious-- and that includes "fresh" meat, veggies, fruits, etc. We want cheap food.. except in the end, we'll be paying more for medical expenses when our bodies give out from eating food we're not supposed to. That's why I would rather go to a farmers market and spend a little more on REAL food than spend money on medication along the line...
The food industry here is as BAD as the cigarette industry. They cover up so much corruption and lies about the food we eat, and it's so dangerous.

omfg AGREED. it's just one big nightmare and i'm like why is NO ONE attacking this the way the tobacco industry has been. is every lawmaker receiving checks from these food companies? i mean i love me some bad greasy food, but let's use real butter, real sugar.

and for fuck's sake stop with the lies. omg i picked up a bottle of chocolate milk and i swear to god there was a note that said, milk from cows who received bovine growth harmone isn't different from milk from cows who haven't. um, WHAT THE FUCK????

Wait, in an effort to curb teen smoking they banned clove cigarettes, which are slightly less bad for you, and might give you cancer a little more slowly (not to mention the second-hand smoke smells better at least!) over traditional tar-and-cancer-laden tobacco cigarettes?!? Do you have a link to an article or something, I would love to read more about this.

(I don't smoke, never have, but have fully supported clove cigs as an alternative for a long time.)

Also, good luck with getting that raise!!

yup, it was called the family smoking prevention and control act.

it's ridiculous if you ask me, but then again i've never bought into the panic over smoking anyway.

Also, I have experimented with my own family, and for the most part when given the choice of a fresh food option over 'traditional' over-processed grocery store fare/fast food, most of them go with the grosser options, and not necessarily because their 'cheaper,' but because its ingrained in them now. I grew up with my family but I can't understand the mentality. I tell them "eat organic if you can, free-range/local is good, too," and "MSG/HFCS/artificial sweeteners are cancer pellets added to our food," and its like they just don't absorb the meaning ( ... )

our realtionship with food sure is complicated. it's hard to just give up the terrible delights that you grew up with, so i just wish shit like oatmeal cream pies could just be made with all natural ingredients. they'd probably taste a whole lot better too!

i don't understand why no one sees the importance of putting better things in your body.
