i can't be friends with people who think certain accalimed directors should not have been arrested in relation to rape charges that led to said director fleeing the country and becoming a fugitive for a couple of decades...

seriously, supporting roman polanski in this is FUCKED UP. there's no two ways about it. if this were a regular guy, there ( Read more... )

Agreed. Reading all these articles and people defending Polanski makes me feel like the world has gone insane.

The bottom line is, a grown man was sick enough to have sex with a 13 year old girl. What more reason do they need to punish?!

So fucked up.

"sick" or not, he BROKE THE LAW. he fled the country and became a fugitive. it would be a failure of our justice situation if his arrest warrant was just dismissed.

i fail to see how his supporters don't realise he dug his own grave. whether you want to mince words over was it rape or not, it still remains that he peaced out before his plea bargain hearing. that in itself is against the law, and it's just not okay for a arrest warrant to just be forgotten because he's a celebrity. famous people get arrested all the time for doing fucked up shit. polanski supporters should just deal with it.

i actually liked the chalkboard headboard idea....
until you broke it down like that :/

yeah I didn't know that the rape was of a 13 year old. Geeeeeeez! How can anyone defend that?

The only reason I can think to excuse it, is if the girl says she's okay now, is actually okay, and if he has compensated her adequately for the action and the past pain that was caused. Obviously she's not, so he should definitely get punished for it.

I'm not of the opinion that one-off crimes should be punished if all parties involved have settled their issues and are able to live past it. Different people have different maturity levels, and are sometimes able to resolve situations much more reasonably than a court of law. I know that totally flies in the face of the idea of justice, but in a system that can employ the lowest common denominator, exceptions can be made.

our justice system certainly has its flaws, but when there's a warrant out for a fugitive's arrest, if the guy can get arrested, he'll get arrested. no one just drops that shit. and if the justice department were to say dismiss warrants for people you see on America's Most Wanted based on their occupations, people would be up in arms.

the guy was already in plea bargin stage. he should have just ridden it out. its not like famous people actually serve jail time!

i'd also like to just go ahead and drop the other concern that i have with the polanski thing. assuming that the girl was in this willingly, then that really begs a question which i find is often disturbingly absent from the freak outs, that a 13 year old girl was sick enough to sleep with a grown man, or frankly, anyone.

now i cant purport that i know it was that way or not, because i frankly have barely even mentally skimmed the situation, frankly its as short in my head as "oh.", but if it was, then that really requires a bit of counselling or at least a look into the issues of the child in question, because sadly, situations like this happen a hell of a lot.

soanyhow, sorry that you got introspective about the movie. you're not always bitchy. sometimes you're fun, or even sweet, and that's why i love you and don't chase you with dangerous weapons <3

amirite sounds like a very pretty blue rock with speckles.

consensual or not (there are people who swear it was) something was wrong enough with what happened that he was taken to court over it. this isn't about the girl, the scary thing are these people who honestly believe that he shouldn't have been arrested. it's like they're completely blind to the fact that he's been a wanted fugitive since the 1970s! some are going so far to claim that film festivals are like sanctuary, hallowed ground where artists are free of the law.
