I O U

i feel as if i owe it to the feminine wisdom collective to share my IUD insertion experience without the lj cuts, friends only option, and clever euphemisms. i really like the term "hoo-ha" so that's not getting nixed.

after hormonal birth control brought on more trouble than it was worth, i settled on getting the ParaGard IUC (intrauterine ( Read more... )

*was also cringing and twitching throughout reading that post, jeezes* The pain sounds like a god-awful terror, but what you get for it still sounds like a good deal. Do you always have uber-long periods when you're on it though?? I just started using the patch...and those things don't stick on curviness so well I've found. Plus they cost me $67 a month @_@ This IUC business is something to consider....

whoa that's a lot of money to spend monthly. for me, even with health insurance i'd have to pay for other contraceptive prescriptions, which is why i chose the paragard. i'm always broke. i KNOW i don't want any damn kids, so i'm getting a lot for what i paid.

i was told that you should expect to have longer, heavier periods for maybe the first month or so of having the procedure, and after that most women revert back to having periods like they had when they first started menstruating. for me that means my days of 3 day periods are long gone, but i can expect 5-6 days.

my co-worker's cycle took a little longer to get back to normal. but now she's back to her regular 5 days.

A-aah......
Thanks for posting this-- You're so brave. I salute you!!!! I was considering getting an IUD (my undergrad health insurance is about to expire, no moar cheap pills for me) but now I'm seriously reconsidering. "How bad could it be" = "Oh, reaaaal bad"

Even routine checkups performed on my nether regions leave me feeling raw and wanting to just curl up in a ball for the rest of the day. I can't imagine how I'd handle getting this one done. I'll figure something out ;A;? Don't want to think about the removal process no no no no

sounds like you'd have the reaction my co-worker's sister had- you'll pass out. ha! then maybe you wouldn't feel anything?

joking aside, i didn't mean to discourage, just wanted to be honest. as you said, it can be really bad, but i think that one moment of displeasure is totally worth the hundreds of dollars i'll save and not getting preggers.

Wow, thank you for this. I'm with you on thinking I have one hell of a casual approach to pain b/c my threshhold is really high, and if you got blindsided by it... yeah.

You may remember that I was looking at getting one. My boyo's getting snipped instead, because he rules and because we need frozen peas anyway - but your account is really helpful anyway, thank you.

Step up your iron supplements or something, though, yikes.

I will not start my whine/rant about how totally fucking shitty all the feminine birth control options are.

O_O;

My face while reading this. I think I would want to already be passed out before the procedure, because I'm pretty certain I would be crying. Oh ye brave soul.

And yeah, 3 day periods? Wish that was normal.

At least though, this all works out in the end, but wow 5 minutes of hoo-ha torture? Eeep!
