virement noun A strictly regulated process of transferring items, especially public funds, from one financial account to another.

Hah... I've been mentally spelling it wrong all these years. I only ever hear the verb form because it comes up when I want to do something tricky with finance and the fiance whizz persons says "Sure, we can just vire that." (meaning switch it between accounts). I'd always assumed it was "via" not "vire".
