I'm a bit confused by your statement of "Bush should not be proud at ALL to call Berlusconi one of his allies. at all."

From reading your paragraph and then the Seattle PI article you linked to I am not sure exactly WHY you feel that way. Is it because of the blast? (Which, according to the article was from firecrackers thrown by protestors who decided that protesting in front of Berlusconi's was not enough and decided to storm it?)

no, its not from the blast...thats just from workers stikes. from what ive heard from everyone here, Berlusconi is like having Ted Turner as president... every smaller country in Italy is therefore trying to run itself and seperate itself from the rules Berlusconi is trying to lay down for all of Italy which really just help the northern Nilan area that he comes from. my neighbors call him "THIS close to being a true dictator".

Italian Politics sandoo October 12 2004, 12:09:51 UTC
I remember doing some studies on Italian politics while in college (oh, the joy of being a Poli Sci major) and it fascinated me.

Actually, all Eurpoean politics fascinates me. **Their multiple political parties
**The various systems of government each country has (for istance I still remember the german names for their two house system....over 10 years later!)
**The role/non-role of the monarchy
**The rule of law as a nation as opposed to regional rule of regions who have been hostile to each other longer than the US has been a country.
*The process and timing of elections
*Etc.

How great that you get to see it all close up!

oh awesome. Sandra, there is a great book called The Dark Heart of Italy, which explores how Italy's political makeup is so closely tied to its cultural makeup. you would love it. the country is a political mess. Basically, Italy has so many small political groups, each which are splintered from Italys past of either Communist Left or Fascist Right. they have no middle. Many people think Berlusconi was re-elected, even after his resignation and tax fraud and bribery etc, because of his media ties. the man is a media mogul, and he is totally proud of it. the main Milan newspaper, soccer teams, tv stations, radio stations....its totally fascinating. and then how the media is tied into Soccer. which is even MORE fascinating, since if you are going to pull the people in, use soccer, since everyone loves it here. the whole country is corrupted by something ( ... )

i don't believe in ghosts. at all. except for when i'm alone in my apartment. and the lights are out. and the closet door is open. then i'm absolutely certain they exist! however, when the light goes on, they stop existing. like roaches. jk.

i'm enjoying reading your italy stories rather a lot, by the way.

ok, so its crazy here. everything closes for siesta time at like 1pm and they dont open till 4. apparently, lots and lots of sex happens in this time, according to my neighbors. its true. you can actually hear it. my apartment is in this cute tiny road, and you can hear people burping in their apartments. and also, you can hear the sex. yep. stick your head out the window and you can practically hear it across the street in the apartment facing you.
