(Note: this is probably not at all where op meant it to go and isn't even really where I meant it to go but Zip's pov just sort of happened and also enabled me to abuse run on sentences so...)
As soon as Zip spots the creased paper in Mal’s back-pocket she starts buzzing. It’s really a fine line between her normal everyday type jitters and her current semi-suppressed excited vibrations, but she was sitting - or rather, shaking - at a point somewhere between types three and four on Mal’s probably not initially well-intended but Zip decided to make it into a positive thing anyways personally devised classification system of Zip’s energy levels. But there was something new and something significant and something worn and touched and very clearly definitely capital “I” Important and, most buzz-inducing of all, something secret. Hence, buzzing, and lit up eyes to boot, and Mal can probably tell already because he’s too perceptive for his own, or her own, good, as has been well established in a number of far too personal and ( ... )

The effect is immediate and Mal’s expression breaks for a moment. “You know as well as I do that I have not been in contact with her since our meeting in New York. Our present situations prevent communication,” he says sighing, but he knows.
And it all comes out at once, the paper and the letter and the stamp and it can’t be from anyone else really who else would write him a letter and it doesn’t come out the right way but it falls out, sprints out, from her tongue and she sees Mal hesitate between interrupting her so she can catch her breath or letting her continue as punishment, jerk, but he stops her with a merciful hand raise.
“We may have been in contact since New York. I had expressed some concerns to my mother later that evening and she agreed to facilitate some - exchanges,” Mal manages to say before Zip begins to positively hum and her grin is about to break off her face and Mal pretends to be annoyed at that but she can see the light in his eyes and the whisper of a smile on his lips. “Now that that is ( ... )

He sighed “Because Hovick is unscrupulous and I made a rather unwise wager,” he paused to scope out the gym making sure no one would come in, he set down a laptop and quickly adjusted it’s volume.
