You should read a book called Choke by Chuck Pahalniuk. It would definitely be a good read for you concerning what I just read in your post.

Its about a man named Victor Macini who is in effect an addict to sex. He supports his mother who is in intensive care, and the way he pays for it is by going to resturaunts and choking on food. Someone saves him, and he feeds them some sap story. It makes them feel important that they saved him, and better that they are needed by this poor poor man and so they contribute money on his various birthdays, thus giving him the running scam.

Its much more but thats the general exposition.
