Seems like getting people you don't know is a pretty common event. Practical objects are always great, I'd think. At least then you know it's not lying around somewhere gathering dust.

Ah-- I was thinking of something practical, actually... But that seems to vary from person to person. It's not very practical to have ten pair of mittens, I think...

It's true. I guess the best way to go about it is to think of what sort of things you'd like - harder if your Secret Santa is a guy, though - and to go from there. Some people need ten pairs of mittens.
