When in time did it become acceptable that women may attire themselves in the clothing of men? It were a hanging offense in my village, but now it goes without remark ( Read more... )

I'll see if I can snag you some from the kitchen. We call them "cookies," though, not cakes.

Oreos, perhaps? Peri is quite fond of those. I wonder if there might still be a packet of them in the TARDIS, although if there is, they would be terribly old by now. I myself have never been partial- I prefer shortbread biscuits with my tea.

I've found that it's really mostly on Earth where such social constraints are to be found, and I believe it might have been somewhere in the vicinity of the early 1900's when the boundaries of socially acceptable dress codes began to stretch. Most of the cultures I've visited don't often differentiate between the male and female, except on occasion by differences in the colour of their clothing- although I think that may well be out of personal preference, rather than a social stigma. The only other reason I can think of that would dictate a difference in dress would be anatomical accommodations.

Be careful with your reading choice. Lovecraft was primarily adept at two things: confounding, and frightening, humanity. Not a pleasant man to converse with, either.

I am not afraid of words upon a page.

Doctor, I would like to wear jeans. May I have them?

It isn't the words that effect so profoundly, Miss Williams, as their meaning and intent. We both know this.

I don't see why not. As long as you aren't running about naked or otherwise indecent, you may wear whatever you'd like. Do you kn- ...no, of course you wouldn't. I'll figure it out somehow.
