I know quite a few christian goths, including a divinity student. I also know quite a few rabidly anti-christian goths. I think that the cross, as worn by goths, isn't necessarily a christian symbol. It's more of a romantic, gothic (in the timeperiod sense of the word), historic and potentially spooky symbol.

I have no idea. I have two crosses that I wear every once in a while if the outfit calls for it. To me, it's just an accessory because I'm not Christian. I've never discussed the 'whys' behind goths wearing crosses, though the ideas of suffering, blood, torture, and death make a lot of sense; however, I can't give you a solid answer.
