An interesting exception to the MHC attraction is for women taking the pill. Wedekind found that pill-takers responded in almost the exact opposite manner than would be expected. I'm sorry I couldn't resist I love this stuff. First of all, what is the "expected manner" in which the woman was supposed to react...second of all, the Pill doesn't trick your body into thinking it's pregnant. It delivers varying amounts of estrogen and progesterone hormones to PREVENT release of an egg to be fertilized, while also preventing implantation should conception occur. If the Pill tricked the body into thinking it was pregnant, we'd be in big trouble as far as the physiological changes that occur in a womans body ( ... )

That's the whole article if you're interested. I only took this out because I found it particularly interesting as opposed to the rest. It didn't claim this is the only reason women pick mates, and it explains the study of MHC in sexual attraction in lab studies.

In the end, this is just an article on some random website on the internet (which is a series of tubes btw) so clearly it's taken with a grain of salt. It certainly doesn't explain why some girls choose to go out with guys that treat them like shit over and over again (like my sister) which to this day baffles the crap out of me. Any hormonal medical jargon to explain that one? I'll be sure to nod like I understand and agree with the explanation. :D

Well I know that's a huge emotional attachment, and he'll obviously be involved in a lot of ways in the future. But still. It's nothing to go into detail about over LJ, and it's not just that one example. Just one of those paradox's my mind cannot grasp. Just like the fact that you posted on my livejournal.

Funny you say that was off a random website, because when i was home over break, I was reading Time magazine, and I swear I read that word for word (is Time so lame now that they plagerize websites lol?)

Um yeah anyway, I don't really have any knowledge on the subject so I won't try lol. The Time article seemed to be saying that you can smell MHC, but it made it sound like it wasn't really a conscious thing. (They also mentioned tasting it, and claimed that could be why we kiss - not so convinced on that lol).

Or maybe the article plagiarized Time? Who knows. It was on a random website, but I found the link from Digg.com, so yeah.
