Forgiveness heaved a sigh that barely masked her growing frustration. She was beginning to think that this was a complete and utter waste of her time, especially when there was such an important chocobo race on. She could be out there doing the job that she was assigned instead of standing around hoping for something productive to happen.
The air around her was just as frustrated with the many scientists debating what the problem was. They weren’t being quiet either, openly discussing why their theories were wrong and how to correct them. It seemed useless though.
They had tried pretty much everything. They had cut it open, sliced it up, dissected it, cast spells on it, dumped pure mako energy on it, x-rayed it, drawn fluids from it.
Nothing.
Not a single trace on how to cause the Black Materia to emerge from the WEAPON, and they were running out of options. It was a major set-back considering all that they had had to do in order to find the great materia in the first place. Now they had it and they couldn’t even draw the materia from the protective husk that it had been jammed into.
And the next brilliant idea had failed as well. That was why she had been called in, since it had been her physical strength that held him down as the WEAPON was positioned close. There had been a reaction, the most that they had seen, but when it seemed that the idiot ex-General had proved to be of some use, nothing had happened.
Sephiroth could make the Black Materia react, but the useless flesh bag couldn’t even do them all a favour and draw the Materia out. She doubted that it was because he had been unconscious at the time, which was the current theory. She simply thought that he couldn’t get the Black Materia out in the first place. The planet wouldn’t have made it that easy, not when Sephiroth was the biggest threat for the destructive materia in the first place.
There was something else that they were missing. She thought that GEL would know, but even she had been forced into silence when it seemed that all their theories had been thwarted. If GEL had been unable to come up with an answer, then they would have to start from scratch. GEL was all.
“…perhaps if we awaken him and allow him close?”
“That seems rather risky. Both Sephiroth and the Black Materia are probably unstable. We don’t want him to activate it either.”
“What if we had the White Materia?”
“Doubtless, we would need the Ancient for that. If we disturb too much, they will eventually find this place. The last thing I want is Reeve and his WRO soldiers coming down here.”
“AVALANCHE might be worse.”
“Together would be our worst-case scenario, but we have the virtues. They have their units on ready.”
Forgiveness tuned out the scientists and pushed off the wall, huffing to herself. These people thought they controlled the seven virtues? No, that was GEL. They would move on her command alone, not some bookworms who thought that everything could be grown in a jar.
She walked away from the pitiful conversation, her eyes shifting to regard the reinforced door where Sephiroth was being kept. She would have liked to crack his skull open for making GEL upset, but that was not an order she had received. He would still be of use.
“Yer better off dead… or givin’ us the Black Materia,” she hissed as she walked away. She had better places to be then standing around in a lab.
