The eerie red of the emergency light made the impenetrable shadows  even blacker than they ought to be. He couldn't see -- it was all distorted. Break may have been a little unstable at the time. He had just fled a house with a good many more bodies than this scene. It was exactly like the Sinclair house 50 years ago, all dead except for Sharon- but he didn't want to think about it now, because he was sure it wasn't real. Because the Rainsworth house was far away from here and they couldn't have been killed like that.

Because he didn't want to think he'd run away from that scene again, just like he had 50 years ago, even though it was his fault, even though Sharon needed him, he'd run anyways because he was a goddamn coward-

But it didn't matter, because it wasn't real. It wasn't real. And when he stopped running, he was even more convinced; the unnatural red light, the shifting scene, the murderer's unhinged laughter- this couldn't be real at all. And for some reason, that struck him as hilarious. It started as just a giggle, but it wasn't long before he was laughing just as loud as the other man.
