There's the soft chime of someone standing by the portrait.

Edmund blinks, suddenly rather thoroughly distracted-- for the moment, at least-- and crosses over to let whoever it is through.

The portrait chimes, and Caspian waits patiently outside for Edmund's response.

He has tea.

Edmund blinks at him, for a moment, and then grabs him to drag him inside.

This is, possibly, because of the tea.

The presence of tea is certainly a calming one. Caspian sets the things down on a nearby table, and then turns to face Edmund, silently, but with a great deal of concern in his solemn eyes. He looks Edmund over, before seeming to come to the conclusion that he was, at least, physically all right, and turning to pour the tea.

A cup gets handed to Edmund.

Caspian gets a smile that's slightly tired, and awfully rueful, and a bit grateful, and quite a bit still utterly bemused.

"Thanks," he manages, draining the cup.

If he burns his tongue, he doesn't seem to notice.

"You're going to wear a hole in the floor, you know," says Kitty, where she's sitting with her legs crossed, a little above the floor.

Her eyes aren't totally shut.

"It's better than wearing a hole in the fabric of the universe?" he offers weakly, after a moment.

He paces over towards her, sliding down the wall to sit with his head almost between his knees, just next to her.

"Mmm." It's noncomittal.

"Is there a reason you're attempting to dig a trench in our carpet, or is it just for fun?"

Not that she can't guess, but she's wondering if this is better to talk about.

"... it's what Raven said, I think," he says, slowly.

Painting. Chime.

It's a thing.

Edmund.

Answering chime.

Blinking, and looking rather surprised really, as he steps back to let Peter through.

"Hullo, Edmund," Peter says, smiling tentatively. "How're you holding up?"

"Hullo, Peter," he replies automatically, almost dazedly. "It's good to see you again."

The actual answer to his question is "I am out of tea", but Edmund does not quite think to say it.
