As promised, here're the photos ^^.
Out of the 260 we took out there, I've shaped 44 into a Web-able form for y'all to observe... Don't complain of the quality though, as I have pressed on quantity over quality.
Well, we weren't lucky with the weather. Although it was a nice take-off and a nice flight, the ride got way too bumpy during descent and landing -- the pilot took several 270 degree turns as he struggled to kill the altitude, and I've honestly thought the idiot will crash the plane several times over. Sorry, man, my opinion was off, the landing itself was smooth as silk.
Once we arived at the hotel, we had to kill time until there would be an actual free room for us to take... So we went walking around the place.
The sky was cloudy, but cleared up quite fast...View of the sea!The most surprising part was the sheer amount of foliage/vegetation around. Plus, most of the trees looked funnily different to the way they grow in Russia's cold climate... (look beyond me in that pic for examples ^^)
The room was quite fitting, although at times I felt somewhat frustrated with the lack of comfortable musick-listening-to space...
View from our balcony. It's pics like these that make me feel like a Kurt Russell lookalike. Don't ask why. I will spare you of the pics of my sunbathing (hee ^^), so we'll move on to the water procedures. Having figured out just how exactly this waterproof box thing works, we've had fun with the camera, snapping away at everything moving under -- and above, although from a new angle -- the water.
Yours truly, as seen from t3h water. The red thing is a safety buoy Dad's holding on to while taking the photo.A little crab. He's actually easy to spot while he's moving, but once he's still, it's a b!tch to notice him. I've spared you the frustration and drew a clumsy arrow instead.Placeholder seabottom picture. Seen one, seen'em all. Most of my underwater ones are like it, meaningless and empty. Let's write it down to my lack of skill and move on already.Trust Dad to put a new spin on things... This is the unhospitable shape of our 'beach'. Since there wasn't much to do around Pula (the town near which we were situated), we've readily agreed to take the boat to Venice for a one-day excursion...
We've really had to take this photo because......we have a picture of the same spot back home.Piazza de San Marco (St. Mark's Square) wasn't really interesting, IMAWO, so we snapped away. While waiting for the guide to finish her lengthy account of the history of the place; Dad and I were asked to assist 7 people in total to take their photos with the church in the BG. When Dad said "Next one who asks will be charged for 1 Euro per photo!", the guide has finished her lecture and we plodded onwards. >.<
The Bell Tower. It collapsed in 1902, but was restored for the citizens' money. The church (okay, okay, Basilica) itself was mildly interesting from the outside, but the length of the lines waiting entry was long enough for Dad and I not to pursue it.
There are four large frescos on the front of the Basilica. Three are new and Catholic in appearance, like this one.The fourth was made several centuries earlier and looks eerily like an Orthodox one, despite the Latin words (larger pic for Latin speakers out there). The place's flood-defense system might be impressive, but it can't prevent water coming up from teh sewers (which is the source of this pretty puddle -- there's a manhole cover in the middle of it). Having skimmed quickly through the glassblowers' museum, Dad and I disappeared into the mixed crowd of tourists, eager to get farther away from our compatriots (mainly since most of them are idiotic enough in behaviour to make us feel ashamed of being russian).
Despite all my earnest attempts, however, we failed to get completely lost. The rest of the day went past in a blur of places, faces and various shops (as Dad sought new ties for himself -- he had obtained quite a lot by the end of the day), and the final boat ride back to harbour was quite relaxing... If it wouldn't be for the aforementioned compatriots we had to share the boat with >.<
Spotted this on top of one building... Would you want such a 'penthouse'?From what we managed to see, this was the only entrance to this building... No wonder it was abandoned :D After our return to Pula, I've done some more quality scuba-diving (sadly, without the camera), and watched the weather get confuzzled. The next day, the waves were quite huge...
No, my camera was no OD on anything, it just got splashed and water stayed on the outer glass opposite the lens... But the effect is neat! It's waves like these...... that do this. (Dad's aim was way off, so these pics aren't of the same wave... The second one was way scarier, but due to all the water you wouldn't've noticed I've pissed my pants even if I did, in fact, piss my pants, which I did not. But it was scary and painful to be thrown around like that. I even bruised an elbow. Later that day we've had a little semi-storm (well, the waves were HUGE, and it even rained a small bit...) But it wore off fast, and the next day the sea was dead calm again, inviting and all... Oh yeah, and chuck full of somewhat poisonous jellyfishies.
Dad ordered himself a fish in the restaurant......and look what he did to it! (Yes, we did indeed lick the plate clean... Not! We just dumped the bones onto a clean one to fool y'all.)I was also mildly entertained by watching those strange red-and-black ants scurry along the walls. We went to Trieste as well... Also by boat. The weather was on-off good-bad, with clouds running up and running away all the time, the humidity clocking over 666% (:P) and it being hell hot no matter what.
Many people fooled around the statues in the harbour, but only Dad did it in an original way...Visiting a church. Yeah, a catholic church that actually allows tourists to take photos inside. It was actually very dark, but the camera had once again proven it's Night Mode can handle pretty much anything. Those Triestians know nothing of weeding... Don't they know greens attract Thread? [/Anne McCaffrey fan] Having been thoroughly exhausted by half a day's walking (which was very odd, since we didn't get tired of walking around Venice at all!), once we've arrived at Miramar Castle (well, it's a bit small for a castle, but that's it's name, I think...) we ignored the tourist attraction stuff and got down at the local cafe to get some proper Italian pizza!
Munch, munch. Once we've nourished ourselves, we set out for more walking around Miramar...
Castle itself. It's not one wing of it as the Englishmen among you might suspect. It's about 90% of it, really. Told ya it's tiny.Yes, they have cannons too. Too bad no cannonballs to play around with >.<The birds that inhabit the area around it had great fun hugging the small rocks protruding from teh sea...Oh yes, the proprietary shaded alley. *grins* Was as hot in here as everyplace else, but at least here it was pretty. Back in town of Trieste itself, we've spotted a fun feature...
This building stands across from the City Hall, I'll have you know...But it's modern counterpart is a lot farther down the shoreline. Let's play "Guess this car make..."We couldn't've just walked past an Orthodox church. As it was one of the few buildings around that had russian words on it!!! *cheers like a kid* This very night, I've watched the moon... And took pics.
Imagine my shock at seeing THIS as a result. Yes, that's the moon and the shadows are wrong due to a streetlight behind me. Damn Night Mode filtered the night out! Literally! This is what the unfiltered night looks like. Yep, almsot no stars. The next morning I was going diving... The jellyfishes were still about, so we had to pack into our wetsuits tightly -- the burns from the suckers look and feel like from nettles, but last way longer -- and this sucks.
The dive went quite well, and I took loads of pics...... Down to the bottom is upwards in this shot, along the wall you see.Greenpeace reps would piss with acid if they knew what can be found underwater around these parts...Filter an underwatre photo in Photoshop and you get an Alien World!Do the same to a Jellyfishie, you get a Metroid! This is the stuff nightmares are made of!When climbing out from water, I always have messed-up hair... And face too. >.< *facepalms* This is where my choice of decent photo materiel ends. We've spent two more days lounging on the beach, but the jellyfishies never left -- Dad's last burn he got from them wore off only a couple days ago from now, so you can understand why people didn't look so willing to dip into the sea around then ^^. And after that it was back to Moscow, the colds and the politics... Not to mention studies.
Oh yeah, speaking of studies. The term has begun, and I'm feeling utterly brainless... *shakes head* And the feeling refuses to pass!
