I don't know what's wrong with me. Last October, after years of trying, I finally got a job in my dream location of Queensland (there aren't many decent IT jobs up there).
This April (about halfway through my contract which almost certainly would be renewed) I got a call about an opportunity in Wales. You guessed it - I threw in my cushy job in Brisbane (where I told everyone I would finally settle) and booked a one-way ticket to Cardiff where I started a six month contract.
I'm not sure what compelled me to leave Brisbane - the higher rate on offer, a fear of settling or an opportunity to visit my relatives and friends in Europe/UK one last time.
Six months later and I'm back here in Oz. Overall I'm fairly happy I went to Wales. Sure, the client announced that we would all be outsourced about 2 months after I landed there. Sure, I had a health scare and rushed myself to hospital one day because I was convinced I was having a heart attack. Sure, I found Cardiff to be the biggest sh1thole on the planet and populated almost entirely by Neanderthals (don't believe what you've been told, they are still alive, you can see them on the 44 or 45 bus to St Mellons). The life lessons though, have been invaluable. Also I've found one place where I definitely DON'T want to settle.
I have enough material about my time in Wales for a mini-series or at least a few deadjournal entries. Liv may be interested to hear that I had my most bizarre interview experience ever for a role at Euroclear in Brussels. I might get around to posting some more later. In the meantime I hope everyone enjoys their holidays.
What are my plans for the New Year? No idea really, anything could happen. I could pick up my stuff and travel anywhere in the world with 24 hours notice. I think I like it this way.
OK ok, I didn't get in touch with anyone on my friends list while I was in the UK but you didn't really expect me to did you!
