It definitely seems that way sometimes but it's easy to get caught up in negativity to the point that one looses sight of the not-so-negative. I'm guilty of that as much as anyone.

PBS and NPR are both full of excellent, intellectual programming. There are book stores everywhere full of knowledge waiting to be absorbed. The mere fact that you recognize negativity speaks to the fact that you're also aware that there is positivity to counter it.

Life, when lived well, is a work of art. Take a work of art that is all fluff and light and you have nothing but banality. Take the challenges away from life and there is no impetus to grow, become stronger and achieve. To erase the transmission would be to erase the story of humanity. To erase the darkness would be to lessen the worth of the light.

I agree that we have a self-destructive impulse. That impulse, however, will inevitably be erased by natural selection. Sad and cold to say, perhaps, but factual nonetheless.

I totally agree. It has such a negative effect on the youth in our culture, I've noticed this with my 7 year old daughter. The media has taken away our abilities to think for ourselves.
