If you're not interested in World of Warcraft, ignore this post!
In the words of Tyronebishop, Paladin of Shadowsong (because I'm too busy to form my own rant so late, and he basically says exactly what I'm thinking):
" Well I still have yet to make a single epic weapon as my server's only hammersmith able to craft ebon hand. If the CMs would like they can check my posts on the shadowsong server forums stating my intent to craft items for free as long as materials are provided. They will also see the complete lack of interested response as no one in their right mind would want one.
I realize that no one cares about my exploits as a hammersmith, and please let me state that my intent is not to brag, but to illustrate a point. The point is that even the very BEST item any hammersmith can craft in this game has absolutely zero demand in this game. The same is true for the other weaponsmithing plans Im sure. Shadowsong is a high population PvE realm, so one would think that at least a single person on the server would either have the mats, or request an ebon hand crafted, particularly since I am not charging a crafting fee. I would collect the core pieces myself to craft one of my own, but at 250g apiece and a requirement of 22 cores, this is completely unreasonable. Meanwhile, the one or two armorsmiths on the server with exalted status with TB are highly sought after.
This issue is not merely with the Thorium Brotherhood recipes, but all of weaponsmithing. The profession itself has outlived its usefulness on every mature server. What limited recipes we are allowed, are hogwash compared to simple drops and quest rewards. Even the almighty Arcanite Reaper has lost nearly all of it's fame due to the 10 minutes of PvP it would take to get a weapon at least as good, if not better, in the form of the Ice Barbed Spear. Measure this against the 20 bars of arcanite needed and the difference is obvious. What is needed is a complete revamp of weaponsmithing, looking back at nearly all of the weapon recipes, with changes in stats, material requirements and graphics in order to make the profession viable once again. Also needed are new recipes, as the 5 or 6 recipes alotted to each weaponsmithing specialization are insulting when compared to the multitudes of armorsmithing plans available.
I beseech you blizzard, if you intend to leave the current weaponsmithing profession as is, then just remove it from the game entirely. To lead people to believe that it is a worthwhile profession as it claims in your online guide, is misleading and insulting to those of us who have taken the profession to it's utmost limits and found it lacking entirely.
All I have to say in conclusion is 22 cores for Ebon Hand...22 cores for a mediocre epic weapon. And that is the cheapest number for any of the TB exalted weaponsmithing plans.
Dark Iron Helm, which is VASTLY superior in use and function takes only 6. Please Tseric, Eyonix, any CMs, do the math and take it to the dev team."
Honestly, this is so true. Not ONCE in my entire WoW career have I been able to sell ONE of my weapons, and I am a Master Hammersmith (but this goes for Swordsmith, too). The materials required are retarded and are not worth it. Heck, you'll get better items farming for the materials required to get some of these (fiery cores, heart of the mountains, etc), its really pathetic and makes me wonder why I wasted so much time in this profession. I wasn't even able to make myself a weapon that was useful since I picked the trade up at lvl 5. Thanks for listening, I hope Blizzard takes some of the suggestions on the forum.
