I need a volunteer job so that I can receive my stipend from my college for the summer! Does anyone know of any place to volunteer where they actually reply and where I would have a lot to do there? I need to volunteer 30 hours a week. I was hoping to spread this out over several places. I've contacted the YMCA and put in an application but am ( Read more... )

Have you tried the crisis nursery. You basically play with kids who have been dropped off by their parents for various reasons for up to a week. Usually its domestic abuse problems or neglect. Its a pretty easy volunteer job if you already like kids. I think there is a limit of 12 kids so it wont be overwhelming. Ironically i didnt do it because I really not a kid person, yet here i am doing all of those things now. So maybe I was wrong.

Hi Laura!

If you can stomach the religious overtones (and your stipend doesn't exclude it), I would suggest contacting parishes in your area because churches and ministries generally need volunteers. I'm not sure what sort of transportation you have, but St. Francis de Sales (http://www.institute-christ-king.org/stlouis/) has a daycares that I volunteered at a couple years ago.

Guardian Angel also has a daycare, but they've got lots of other volunteer stuff too. I think they're near Metro.

Karen House is a shelter for women in North St. Louis. I don't think they have a working website, but their contact information is:
1840 Hogan Street St Louis, MO 63106-3097 - (314) 621-4052

And Our Lady's Inn is a shelter for pregnant women. http://www.ourladysinn.org/

I hope you find a position somewhere!

Thanks girls! I'll look at allof these and probably contact them tomorrow if they work! :) Rachel, I volunteer at the Church Health Center, so we're allowed to do some service with religious sites as long as our primary purpose isn't to preach.
