this is entirely different than moving the cheese. This situation is common among people our age. Take for example past relationships of mine. Seeing as how I am a very emotional person and tend to invest emotions in people that I have no business trying to even have a friendship with, I have a problem with superman syndrome. I choose young women with problems so enormously huge that I could never possibly fix them, and expect to be the one who can "make it all better" or "break through the barrier they have set up ( ... )

That is a beautiful, albiet sad, saying. :( I'm sorry that your going through a hard patch; I know what you mean on the age bit; it can be so strange, to realize how much we've changed from when we were older and how different we are from people that are younger than us...

Age is of no conciquence. Pain can emerge from moments past or years of torment. Sometimes people let you down and it is true that things may never be the same between the two. But tomorow is another day. Pain will pass but friends do not. A good bit of advice is, life is what ya make of it. the only person to be there for you undoubtedly is yourself. So take care of yourself. And that way you'll most likely never be let down.

yeah age difference can suck. anyone who says otherwise is either lying to themself, or just haven't found out yet. if you were ever online, i'd talk to you.
