Spring!

I'm so happy by all the sunny days lately! It's warmed up into the 60's most days, though that varies. There's not much excitement to report here, so I'm mostly just going to be rambling.

I'm nearly done with my two class semester. Yea! I've been spending the last week (spring break) catching up on all my work. I officially finished all my reading yesterday and now I just a paper still looming in front of me. I'm a bit concerned about it because I have no idea what I'm going to write about. Well, I have a couple ideas, but I'm not sure I can flesh them out to a paper. Plus my professor has to pre-approve our topics which makes it harder for me to play with different topics to see what works. Hopefully once I get going on it, it won't be as bad as I'm anticipating. Once this class is done next week, I'll be FREE until September. Woo hoo!!!

I finally took Sammy to the vet for the first time since last summer. He was not a happy camper. He was always pretty docile at his BC vet, but at this one, he was hissing and refusing to come out of his crate. So I was left wondering if this new vet is not very gentle with him or what. But there's many other possibilities. Sammy is older now and more temperamental; there weren't separate dog/cat rooms so the room may have smelled too much like dog; he hasn't been to the vet in so long that he was confused about what was going on. In any case, he didn't bite anyone so I guess that's good. ;-) He had to get three shots and then it turns out he has a mild bacterial ear infection. So now I have to give ear drops twice a day for ten days. So far he's been pretty good about it. I've been able to just sit Indian-style on the floor and put him in lap and put the drops in. The vet showed me how to "burrito" him in a towel to do it that way, so that will be next step when Sammy decides he's had enough of this.

It has been such a pain to find new doctors. Even though I've been a nomad for the last ten years, I've always kept all my same doctors back in Lansing. But now that I'm married, I figured it's time to find new doctors. Jeff goes to AllCare dental, but I really don't want to go there. It's just too weird to me to go a chain for dental work. So yesterday at church, I grabbed a bulletin and looked through the ads on that. There was a dentist advertised so I called him. I'll be heading there next week, so we'll see how it goes. I'm also in the market for a new gynecologist. I found my last one in BC by asking my partner teacher who she goes to. But now that I don't work with anyone on a regular basis, it's far more awkward to randomly ask someone who their gyno is. I'm going to a Natural Family Planning class tomorrow night and my mom suggested I ask the teaching couple who a good gyno is. Good plan, Mom! So now all that's left is finding a new hairdresser. Sigh.

As of yesterday, I am officially off my birth control pills. Jeff and I are switching to Natural Family Planning (NFP) which works by tracking when the woman is ovulating (and therefore fertile) and abstaining (or not) during that time. We're still couple months away from wanting to get pregnant (can't believe it's getting so close!!), but NFP won't work if I'm on the pill because I won't be ovulating. So we'll see how it goes. My big sister and her husband do NFP --- and had all three of their kids at times when they didn't really want them yet. So hopefully as long as we're really good about it, we won't get pregnant too early. (I don't want to be showing earlier than September.)

I'm sure most of you remember the post I made a month or so ago about so frustrated with my weight loss. My sisters and I are doing a Biggest Loser competition and halfway through it, I'm halfway to my goal. So I've been pleased about that. But my sisters have both stopped doing weekly weigh ins and therefore we're also no reporting out our exercise. So I've really fallen off the wagon in the last month. I'm hoping to get back on track this week. My little sister has been struggling to get back on the wagon, too, so hopefully we'll be able to get each other going again.

I'm still really enjoying subbing. Work has slowed way down this month. I've been taking a lot of 1/2 day jobs so I've been working regularly, but 1/2 days are such a double-edged sword. I don't mind working only 1/2 a day, but I also need the full day pay. Once I've taken a 1/2 day job, I'm obviously no longer available for a full day work. I have all 1/2 day jobs on the agenda this week (except nothing today) and then nothing after that. Hopefully then I'll be able to pick up more full day work for the rest of the year.

Hmmm... I think I'm about out of ramblings now. Hope you're all doing well!

Happy almost birthday, Sean!
