Ugh

May is such a crazy month to be sick for so long. And yet I seem to be in good company with others who are fighting illness. I made it through most of the school year without getting sick, even in February where I usually get taken down for at least a couple of days. But no, this year I stayed healthy for most of the winter and get taken down in ( Read more... )

If you eat fairly healthily, chances are that you are getting the majority of what you need and don't have to worry about a prenatal. The most important thing for you to get before and during the first trimester of is folic acid, which you can find in a ton of veggies (which is the best way for you to eat it, of course) or even just take folic acid pills instead of prenatals, which are normally those huge horsepills. My OB told me to take my prenatal before I went to bed (You could probably get by without a full glass of water, esp if you drank a decent amount with your dinner) so that any nausea that might happen would be while I was asleep. But seriously, call an OB (or talk to your GYN if you haven't already), but iron and folic acid are the 2 biggies to make sure you're as healthy as possible for pregnancy. But if you eat decently, you should be pretty good already.

*hugs*

Good luck on the job front. It's terrifying in MD...I dunno where all the stimulus jobs are, but it doesn't seem to be here.

My midwife prescribed the prenatals for me a couple weeks ago. She mentioned the folic acid. Isn't that part of what's in the prenatals? That was the impression I was under. She suggested the prenatals because they contain vitamins B and E, which are supposed to help with menstrual cramping, so that I don't have to take a whole bunch of separate things. Thanks for the tip!

Yeah, the job market is brutal and has been for years. I know people who graduated at the same time I did 5 years ago and still haven't found a teaching job. And here I am giving up the one I was lucky to have had to go back to the search...

Folic acid is absolutely part of the prenatal. It's really important because it helps tremendously decrease the possibility for spina bifida (sp?) which is when the spine's exposed out of the spinal cord and there can be all sorts of nasty problems and learning disabilities associated with that. So if you can't handle the prenatal (which I never could consistently, I was always horribly nauseus, even when I tried taking it at night), at least make sure you're getting good levels of folic acid (I think it's even in OJ, if I remember right, and veggies like broccoli and spinach and stuff) and you should be fine.

*hugs* I hope you're feeling better soon. Ryleigh and I both have finally shaken the horrible "starts as a head cold then moves into your chest and won't go away cold" cold we've literally had for like a month. It would start to go away and then the weather would turn back to crap and we'd start getting croupy again. Totally sucked.

Good luck!

Just take it by itself at your normal time: it's so much more important to actually take the vitamin than to take it with a glass of water - unless it's got a serious stomach irritant in it like aspirin or something, the only reason would be to increase absorbtion, and they usually overstate how much you need to do that anyway.

Also: sounds like you did the right thing with the kid's stealing - let the usual teacher know and let them deal with it. It's unlikely to be an isolated issue, and can simply be added to their bank of knowledge of how to deal with the kid.
