If you think it's important that the US stay competent and competitive in science, which in the long run is arguably a lot more important for the US economy (and quality of life in general) than the bailout (teach a man to fish vs give a man a fish), you might want to rethink that. Many scientists were first excited by science and inspired to become scientists because of childhood visits to places like planetariums. Especially in the anti-science anti-intellectual creationist idiocy of recent years in the US, it seems important to make serious efforts to encourage a next generation of scientists.
