Souter's retiring

1. Specter switched parties.
2. Souter announced retirement.

On the theory that things happen in threes, anyone want to propose the third shoe (albeit not the most apt of metaphors) to drop?

Switching on the noon newscasts, since I'm "off" and at home today, writing the remaining podcast scripts.

heehee! That kind of goes more with the swine-flu thread of events than the political, but still...

Maybe a pol dies of swine flu but keeps coming to work on the Hill as a zombie?

Yeah, that would qualify, although I hope not. I was thinking more in terms of something probably in Dems' favor.

Coleman gives up on his suit and Al Franken becomes the 60th Democratic Senator?

::ding ding ding ding:: Yes, that would be a winner! (not that it's happened, but one can only hope)

On the other hand, isn't Specter now the "60th" and Franken would be the 61st? Or am I confused (very likely, in my case).

Franken is not yet in play. Specter is in that scenario, the 59th Dem. senator. Republicans went from 41 to 40. With Franken, they reach 60.
