Fury Road

I watched Mad Max: Fury Road yesterday and...I did not expect to like that, I was going cause a friend wanted to see it, but I did. I really really did. I had expectations going into it the first time I saw it because MRAs had been crying about it being a feminist parable, so I didn't like it as much when it wasn't. Seeing it a second time, I liked it much better. I actually love the idea of Max being a sort of insane version of Rincewind of his own franchise--the character used to experience the stories of others in this dystopia, not the center of them.

The POV character, but not the protagonist. That is exactly it.

My favorite moment in the whole film is when he pulls past Furiosa, strapped to the front off a speeding car driven by a suicidal kid and the look on his face is "WTF I can't even." Like, that could have been a moment of empathy between two captives, but no. It's just, this is how crazy things are that this is not even noteworthy.

Second favorite moment was Splendid protecting the others with her body. Bought time we got a woman pulling a full cinematic Jesus.

We were having an argument while leaving about whether the warboys were white because of blood loss or white because of makeup. I vote makeup--that they were making themselves skull-like--in which case diversity is kind of hard to tell.
