Part 8
A year later, Jaejoong and Yunho moved over to Grade 8. They were no longer the babies of the school, and they weren’t expected to work too hard this year either. Basically, the year was just a year that didn’t really count to anything.
Over the summer holidays, Yunho had left to go to his hometown which didn’t have any internet connection and neither of them wanted to call (or more like they haven’t tried to call each other yet).
That left Jaejoong only talking to the other boy only a few times a week. He didn’t really notice it, but he just felt a really close connection with Yunho. Maybe it was the fact that Yunho couldn’t really judge Jaejoong on his appearance (you know what they say, people look different in their photos compared to real life). Either way, the young boy really did enjoy Yunho’s friendship. He could tell that Yunho genuinely liked to talk to him, although he’s never actually heard him... but he did want to! He was just too shy to ask.
So imagine the surprise Jaejoong experienced when Yunho asked him if he could call the twelve year old boy.
Jaejooooong says: Wha?
?!. Yuuuuunho says: LOL just hurry up and give me your number!
?!. Yuuuuunho says: Geez you’re still so slow you idiot...
?!. Yuuuuunho says: hurry uuuuuuuup!!
Jaejooooong says: why the sudden interest?
?!. Yuuuuunho says: what?
?!. Yuuuuunho says: i’m not allowed to call you?
Jaejooooong says: i didn’t mean it that way! Just... fine
?!. Yuuuuunho says: while i’m young jae...
Jaejoong bit back a smile and typed in his number, not before running for his house phone before someone else in his family picked up his call.
Jaejooooong says: hurry up slow poke
?!. Yuuuuunho says: ok
?!. Yuuuuunho says: wait YOU’RE ONE TO TALK!!
Before Jaejoong reply back, he felt the phone vibrate and ring in his hands and jumped in shock, the ringing device almost slipping from his grasp. Jaejoong felt his heart beat a little bit faster than usual and stared at the phone, contemplating if he should really accept the call or make an excuse.
Oh, but I want to hear his voice!
With a few deep breaths, Jaejoong pressed the green button and slowly lifted the device to his ear.
“H-Hello?” he breathed hesitantly, and heard a nice, deep chuckle on the other line. Oh my god how could a 13 year old boy have his voice so nice and deep and oh my god someone hold me-
“You sound so cute, Joongie! Just like I thought you would have sounded, but maybe a little better.”
He didn’t feel the heat rising on his cheeks, or the pout that grew on his lips, “S-shut up you idiot! Stop saying stuff like that when i-it isn’t true...”
And he heard another laugh ring through the phone. It was just so nice and cheery that Jaejoong himself started to laugh as well. Yunho sort of had that effect on people.
Both of them stayed on the line in silence, just letting the fact sink in their minds that they’re actually talking to each other. It was a little awkward on Jaejoong’s part. He was somewhat socially awkward and was trying so incredibly hard to think of something to say.
“S-so, what are you... doing...?” Jaejoong asked, as if he was asking himself if that was a good conversation starter.
Nothing was said for a few seconds and Jaejoong cursed himself for being so lame and stupid and-
“Pfff-I mean, Yeah... I’m just you know... clicking around on me2day,” Yunho spoke slowly, and Jaejoong could just hear him trying to hide his laughter. Curse him!
“Yah!”
“HAHAHAHAHA I’m sorry Jae! It... Oh my god it just caught me so off guard and HAHAHA! You sounded too cute!”
The little boy couldn’t tell if his face was on fire because he was embarrassed, or if Yunho really thought he was cute. Either way, his heart was racing so fast and he couldn’t help but fiddle with his fingers, smiling as he listened to Yunho laugh.
And for the next three hours, the two spoke about nothing, just enjoying the others voice sounding through the speaker of their phones with the biggest smiles on their faces.
A/N: Lol okay omg I'm always just so busy with school that it's so ridiculous! In two weeks though I have exams, but I only have one so I'l probably spend my week off just trying to catch up with this. I've lost my files to Solace, so I'll probably either edit and re-post them in one go or continue it. Sorry for the wait you guys.
