A few days ago I was reading an article (this article in fact) about unusual human settlements. Whilst all are eyebrow-raising, Kowloon Walled City in particular caught my eye. Ah curses! Really? One thousand curses! Well still though, thanks for telling me. Had you not, I probably would have got the train over there (4 hours) only to find an empty derelict building, drop my head, and then get the next train back. It would not have been a good episode, that's for sure. I read on Wikipedia that there should be one opening in Manchester in March though, so assuming that doesn't close without having ever shown a film (it's been known to happen) then I should be alright.

Aha! I'll look into that, thanks. Wikipedia claims that the only one there is under construction, but there's no guarantee that information is accurate. If you've been to one yourself, I'm much more inclined to go with it.

That's very cool about having gone to the memorial park. If I can't go to the real thing, then I should at least wander around where it used to be some time. I hear there are still remnants, like part of an old gate and so on. As for the cops, I hear the same thing. That often times there would be handbag snatching just outside the Walled City, and the police would run after the thief until he darted inside, at which point they broke off their pursuit and just let him go. It really is like something out of a Mad Max movie.
