[Hawke's been quiet for a while now. Anyone who knows him should know just how odd that is in and of itself. He sits in the stables bar sipping at a bottle of...something. He wasn't really paying to what it was when he grabbed it. All he knew was that he wanted something alcoholic ( Read more... )

[Enough time has passed that certain mages are once again in full possession of their wits. And with the record of everything Justice said to those he cares for.]

[Well crap.]

[He'd just gone for a walk. Something to clear his head. He didn't expect to run into Hawke.]

... Drinking alone?

Oh, clearly.

[He watches Hawke for a moment, before speaking again.]

You're strangely nonchalant about whatever it is you're putting in your mouth.

What doesn't kill me makes me stronger. Or drunk. Either is good.

[And right now being drunk sounds better than being depressed.]

... Hawke.

[He puts the drink aside long enough to look at him again.]

Is everything all right? If it's about... what was said... I... I want to apologize.

If I recall you didn't say anything, although you did insinuate that I might be the Maker which might possibly be the best compliment I've ever gotten. No I'm pretty sure it was Justice being the huge bitch.

[Look at him skirting around the issue like a Champion.]

So don't apologize until you do something monumentally stupid alright?

[You know things like, blowing up the Chantry and such.]

I... yes. I remember that. [Unfortunately.] But what he said, I... should have had more control.

[He runs a hand over the back of his neck.]

It felt monumentally stupid. But you didn't answer my question.

Hard to have any control when you don't know who you are.

[Seriously Anders, you're his pal. It takes a whole hell of a lot more to upset him than letting Justice yell at him.]

Oh right, sorry about that. The answer is yes. I did sleep with Andraste and I am actually the Maker.

I suppose.

[Well okay now he's folding his arms. With a look.]

That wasn't the one I meant.

[Hawke answers Anders' look with a look of his own!]

Here I go telling you my big secret and I don't even get a gasp. Aren't you hard to impress.

[He doesn't respond for a couple beats. Then his expression falls.]

... I suppose I am.

[Well, if you don't want to tell him. Maybe he should go.]

[Oh son of a...DOES EVERYONE HAVE TO LOOK AT HIM LIKE HE JUST KICKED THEIR DAMN PUPPY?

Hawke sits there for a bit and just sighs.]

If there's anyone who should be apologizing here it's me.

[TO BE FAIR ... Anders never had a puppy. You just kicked Ser Pounce, Hawke.]

[He looks up again, confused.]

What do you mean?

You died. Varric died. I sat around and did a whole lot of nothing. Real nice work for a Champion wouldn't you say?

[He's just going to stare long and hard at his bottle like it said something nasty about his mother and not make eye contact now.]

Hawke...

[He's just going to step closer now, regardless of whether or not Hawke wants company.]

It wasn't as if either of us were interested in being corralled during this madness. I think I would have ignored you, at best, if you'd tried to keep me back.

Who said anything about keeping you back? I should have been there with you. And Varric!

[Memories of what happened to his mother come flooding back. Why is he never there when people actually need him?]

I saved an entire damn city but I can't save two people?

And what were you going to do against a disease, Hawke? I may be wrong, but I don't think illness responds well to being stabbed to pieces.

If any of us failed, it was the healer. The one who takes care of diseases every third day in Kirkwall.
