So over Thanksgiving weekend
I made myself a new hat. Those of you who are also nerds have seen Kanjani8's "Zukkoke Otokomichi" PV may
recognize it.
On the off-chance other Kanjani8 fans crochet, I wrote up the pattern ^^;
(There's another reference picture
here where I stuffed the hat with some cloth to give you an idea of what it looks like when its being worn. Also I apologize for the quality of these photos, my camera is broken so I've been using my camera phone ^^; )
Ohkura’s Hat

Size N hook (9.00 mm)

I should say here that I’m an American, and as such I use the American notation system. Apologies to those of you who are used to the British system. There’s a good translation chart
here.
If you want a hat bigger or smaller than the one here, I would recommend using a bigger or smaller hook. This should be a good one-size-fits-all hat, though, it’s pretty stretchy.
For this pattern you will be working with two strands of yarn together. Either use two skeins of the same color or pull from both the front and the back of the same skein.
With white yarn and size P hook, ch 3. Join with sl st to form ring.
Rnd 1: Ch 3 (counts as first dc), 13 dc in ring. (14 dc) Join with sl st to top of beg ch 3
Rnd 2: Ch 2, (2 fpdc in next dc, 2 bpdc in next dc) around. (14 fpdc, 14 bpdc) Join with sl st to top of beg ch 2.
Rnd 3: Ch 2, (2 fpdc in next fpdc, 1 fpdc in next fpdc, 2 bpdc in next bpdc, 1 bpdc in next bpdc) around. (21 fpdc, 21 bpdc) Join with sl st to top of beg ch 2.
Rnd 4: Ch 2, (fpdc in each of next 3 fpdc, bpdc in each of next 3 bpdc) around. (21 fpdc, 21 bpdc) Join with sl st to top of beg ch 2. Change to grey (if you’re feeling lazy and don’t particularly care what the inside of the hat looks like, don’t cut the white yarn here, just leave it trailing on the inside of the hat. You can just pick it up again when you switch back to white for rnd 8. Do the same with the grey after rnd 7. Make sure not to pull the yarn too tight when you do this, though.)
Rnds 5-7: Ch 2, (fpdc in each of next 3 fpdc, bpdc in each of next 3 bpdc) around. (21 fpdc, 21 bpdc) Join with sl st to top of beg ch 2.
Switch back to white
Rnds 8-10: Ch 2, (fpdc in each of next 3 fpdc, bpdc in each of next 3 bpdc) around. (21 fpdc, 21 bpdc) Join with sl st to top of beg ch 2.
Switch back to grey (you’re done with the white, so cut it here.)
Rnds 11-13: Ch 2, (fpdc in each of next 3 fpdc, bpdc in each of next 3 bpdc) around. (21 fpdc, 21 bpdc) Join with sl st to top of beg ch 2.
Rnd 14: Switch to size N hook. Ch 1, (sc in each of next 3 fpdc, sc in each of next 3 bpdc) around. (42 sc) Join with sl st to beg ch 1. Finish off.
Use yarn needle to weave in loose ends.
Lastly, you need to make the grey pom-pom for the top. I found
this tutorial to be very useful. The pom-pom you need for this hat is much bigger than the one that tutorial makes, however, so I used four fingers rather than two when wrapping my yarn. Once you’ve made it and shaped it to your satisfaction, use the long ends to tie it to the top of the hat. Snip off any extra.
This is my first time writing out my own pattern! If there are any mistakes or you're confused about anything, please leave me a comment! X3 ♥
Maru's hat from the same PV uses the same basic technique, so I might try to make that one sometime, too X3
