Right after that article came out, all of the major app developers started dropping lead gen offers from their applications.

I would agree that "many" major app developers did, but certainly not all. Appended to that post are 21 links to articles about fallout from that post, and this sort of thing is far from being over. More visible, yes, but not over. Some companies just don't give a shit because they know no matter how much bed publicity they get, they're still going to make millions. Especially with things like kwedit coming out.
