Can someone scan and upload to a filesharing site a blank, high quality Borders letterhead document. Need a letter of reference for my resume folder and never had the opportunity to get one!

Not at all. There's several ex-managers and supervisors of mine that I have to call on to muster one up.

Then have them write it themselves on non-letterhead and include their phone number in case the employer wants to verify. Problem solved?

Your future employere are more interested in strong character references - and whether they're over the phone or on lilac paper with no logo is irrelevant. As for 'manufacturing' your own letterhead for your former colleagues to use - bad idea all around. Reflects poorly on you, your judgement, your character - and it doesn't do your former colleagues any favors either. Were someone to give me fake letterhead, I wouldn't write the reference.

This does bring up the point that in a few short months, future potential employers won't be able to verify anything we say about our time with Borders. I hereby give everybody a promotion! >:)

Yeah it doesn't look good on your app when you say you had gotten a raise in three years.

I forget the web address, but there's a site that you can give prospective employers to verify your employment.

Prospective employers must have a monthly subscription to The Work Number to be able to use the site for employment verification. This has worked both for and against me so far. Neither prospective employer had Work Number subscriptions; one rejected my application because they didn't want to pay, the other said "Screw it" and hired me without an official verification.

Back in the day it used to be a 900 number. Still obnoxious to make someone pay for employment verification, but at least it was just a one-time $4.99 charge or however much.

You can create your own with a little cut and paste skills. For the record- I would totally write my own reference letter if I were in the same boat and had to have something for perspective employers-This company shit all over a lot of decent, hard working people...nothing wrong with a little self promotion at this stage of the game.

no offense, but writing your own reference is a horrible idea. its not going to do anything but put you at risk for losing any chance you had at a job.

Potential employers know all about Borders' bankruptcy, no one is going to expect a letter on official letterhead.

I wouldn't hire you. Dishonesty at any level is not a trait I want in my employees.

well for one thing, it's not perspective employers, it's prospective employers.

and writing your own reference - step back, gain perspective - and gather up some self respect and try to be your better self - it ain't no secret that Borders is dead - and to add a lie to an already horrid situation isn't going to get you to goal with your prospective employers.
