Closing Bonus , What’s the facts?

Jul 31, 2011 18:36

Liquidators will promise the world to try to get people to
not quit but what’s the real story about the closing bonus? From any stores that closed how much did you
receive, was it 2 weeks pay? 1 week pay?

Was it taxed into a smaller amount that you expected?

Did the liquidator make any other promises to keep people
from not quitting?

Yes they suggested that to us too.... make a goodie bag with paperclips, some slighty used markers and razor blade box cutters for the staff... WOW what a great way to say thank you for all the bull shit and losing your job.

Well atleast the razor blades may be usefull LOL (ONLY A JOKE RELAX)

That is, if those things haven't been outright stolen yet by your other co-irkers. Or you stole them yourself already.

Our liquidator said that we would all be getting bonuses. Didn't say how much but that we would be pleasantly surprised. Hope he was kidding.

They have to document that they went over the paperwork with you. Our guy actually read it to us verbatim, one at time, of course. The sales bonus is based on the entire company making the sales plan, not any individual store. Usually if you make money on unemployment they deduct some from your unemployment check, but not one to one. You usually come out ahead, it encourages people to work part time, or for lower wages. I know at some stores they have also offered the bonus to other supervisors, merch, cafe, depending on the skill set of those employees.

Call me a happy-go-lucky peon, but I was a Merch supervisor and was pretty damned happy to even be getting a bonus at all, as heavily pro-rated and taxed as it was. Many of my coworkers got nothing despite diligent work ethics and steadfastly good attitudes, so no complaints here.

they give the bonuses to management because they're the ones they really need to stay til the end, because they handle the cash, the opening and closing of the store, etc. The liquidator doesn't want to have to deal with that headache. Unfortunately, they also know that regular floor staff will be scrounging around for as many hours as they can get, so keeping them on doesn't really matter: if some leave, there will be others to take their place, and all they really need to be capable of doing at this point is ringing and picking things up off the floor.

They may say "oh im a straight shooter" but they lie.... all they care about is keeping people to the end. If you want to screw them

JUST QUIT!!!!!!!! You'll still get unemployment.

So, I know unemployment laws vary, but is it generally the case that a seller could quit and still get unemployment? If so, why? Is it because the employer is a liquidator, a separate company? Also, if there are any fixture managers out there, have you sold anything under the table? It seems there isn't any sort of inventory on this stuff and I'd like to pocket some cash. The liquidators are serious dicks.
