I finally decided to post something. My first Kyouya/Haruhi fic. Thanks sharona1x2 for beta-ing.

Title: Final Engagement
Pairing: Kyouya/Haruhi
Fandom: Ouran
Rating: G
Summary: Kyouya's breaks his 5th engagement. His father has had enough and tells him to fix things.

“We are standing outside the Oohtori estate where only minutes ago, the heiress of Narusegawa corporation was seen fleeing the party in tears. Has he cancelled his engagement to his fifth fiancée? That is the question every eligible bachelorette wants to know.”

Click.

“Once again, another engagement had been called off by the heartless rich heir of the”

He didn’t wait for the sentence to finish and turned off the T.V. Every channel he switched to was talking about him and his latest screw up. It didn’t help that they had footage of his Ex-fiancée, leaving the mansion in tears. This was going to be bad for business.

At least when Tamaki was still unmarried, everyone thought they were an item and forgave him for breaking his engagements to the women his parents chose for him. But now, he was just as the news had reported, a heartless rich bastard. He smiled at those last words. She was the only person who would ever call him that and of course she wouldn’t use bad language on national T.V. but everyone else was thinking it.

Everyone knew they’d been friends for a long time. That’s why every time there was a news coverage on the Oohtoris, they sent her.

They all knew she was going to be a lawyer. She herself was so sure of it. For the first two years after graduating from law school, she had worked at a prestigious law firm. Then life decided to interfere. She was being interviewed regarding legal matters on a show that was aired nationwide. After that, she was surprised to receive an offer from the producers asking her to stay on as a host so that she could deal with questions that had to do with legalities. She had been a mainstay for a month when she started receiving bigger offers left and right from other networks who wanted her to sign-on as a newscaster. They cut her a deal where she could work as a newscaster and still stay on with her current law firm. Being the workaholic that she is, she accepted.

“Sir.”

It was his butler.

“Your father is waiting for you in his study.”

“Tell him I’ll be right there.” Kyouya replied curtly.

“I shall, sir.” He bowed and left the room in a hurry.

Kyouya put down the remote and straightened his tux. He left for his father’s office prepared for whatever lecture on marriage, engagements and business partnerships he was going to get this time.

The butler stood outside his father’s office and Kyouya nodded to him.

“Sir, Oohtori Kyouya is here to see you.”

“Let him in.” his father replied, he could hear an undertone of anger in his voice.

“Good Evening Father.” He greeted as he walked towards the head of the Oohtori house.

“Sit down, Kyouya.” His father’s forehead was wrinkled and he seemed a lot older now somehow.

“I’m sure you are tired of my lectures and so I will not give you any. But you will correct this situation immediately do you understand?”

“Yes Father.” He replied

“What are you still sitting there for. Go and fix this mess right now.” His usually calm father was now standing and Kyouya wasted no time. He went to his room, took out the engagement ring that he had kept there for years. Even though he’d been engaged five times, he never actually gave anyone a ring. They always used the rings that their parents had prepared for the occasion. But it seems that his father had had enough and Kyouya was going to make sure that he fixed things tonight. He put the ring in his pocket and left the mansion to do what his father had asked him to.

He stood outside her door and thought it over for a moment. Once he did this there was no turning back. He lifted his hands to ring the doorbell but before his finger connected, the door swung open and she stood there, mild surprise evident in her eyes. It was all happening so fast yet he felt like he stood there for the longest time before he finally heard her. He saw her mouth open before he heard the words in her smooth unassuming voice.

“Kyouya-senpai.” She said, almost a whisper. As if afraid that if she said it any louder, he would disappear. He had never heard anyone else say his name quite like she did.

“Hello Haruhi,” he said in his usual businesslike tone. Then his voice became softer as he added, “we have things to discuss.”

Finally he was doing something for himself.

He let himself in and closed the door behind him, knowing that he was going to get engaged for the last time - if she’d agree to it.
