So, everyone's probably heard about how suddenly Prop 8 (eliminate gay marriage) looks like it might pass. If you haven't given money to "No on 8" yet, first go do that :-) If for some reason you support Prop 8, why the fuck are you reading my LJ? If you don't know what Prop 8 is, you probably don't live in California so you can skip this

The wild populist west loves its voter-driven initiatives, but sanity would suggest that greater than a simple majority is appropriate for anything amending the constitution. Otherwise you end up with a thousand-amendment constitution like, well, some states in the west.

California's laws regarding constitutional amendment are fucked up like a very fucked up thing. WTF, simple majority?

Also, why is it still legal to run ad campaigns that intentionally mislead voters? I mean, we've got truth in advertising laws when it comes to selling things, but somehow it's not that important when it comes to something like changing laws. I do not understand the rationale.
