WHERE ARE THEY?

so i was biking back from legends and amongst that awful "oh my god i
have to burp but it's not happening" feeling I was passed by a BMW
535 (or similar). not a big deal, right? ...well i work in north
raleigh so you sit by the road and you watch and it's a brand new
beamer, then a brand new mercedes, then a new expedition, then a new
suburban, then a brand new lexus suv, then a porsche with dealer
plates, then a brand new lexus and maybe an acura. do you see the
theme? so this bmw that passed me on hillsborough, it was one of the
late 80s/early 90s cars, clearly 10+ years old, from when beamers
still looked all boxy and sweet...and let me tell you it had so much
more style than these new "oh look i have money" cars that i see these
days. it was so heartening to see that, it totally reminded me of
indiana.

like ... okay i'm not terribly wild or anything, but it seems like i'm
living extremes. i mean if you take my friends and my drug habits and
the sorts of things i think are cool i'm supposed to be working at a
coffee shop or a book/cd store or a movie theatre. i mean for fuck's
sake i don't own a car, i'm not even licensed. i ride my bike across
town, and it's a cheap bike at that. but i'm salaried. i have health
insurance. my boss is 40. the other programmer is 42. the sales guy
is 55. and somehow i think i fit in both places just as well (which i
guess isn't really saying much).

but sometimes it kind of freaks me out.

it reminds me of college where i'd be totally stoned all the time
(like /all/ the time) and then i'd be hanging out with these professors
and grad students and i'd be the only one in the room who did anything
other than dnd when he wasn't in the lab.

heh so there you have it i /do/ know how to use lj-cut :P
