He knew his heart wouldn’t know a moment’s rest until he saw her again.
He had tried to do this and that to keep him busy - chop the wood, air the futon, rake the leaves, sleep, eat - but his heart really wasn’t in any of it.
He missed her scent…oh so bad! He was going crazy without her!
How long did a purification ritual take anyway? She said she’d be gone for only a koku and it seemed to him that already an eternity had passed without her.
He was withering away, slowly, while waiting for her - he was sure of it, he was turning into a skeleton. A moment longer and he’d be a goner. It already felt as though he was being strangled - it was getting so difficult to breathe…
He cocked his ear at a sound.
Was that her footstep outside?
He ran to the door to check if it was really her, heart thumping wildly in his chest.
Sure enough, her sweet scented had wafted in before he could even see her. He opened the shoji and lo! He was face to face with his beloved wife.
Inuyasha pulled Kagome into a tight hug, planting big kisses on her face.
“What are you doing, Inuyasha? I wasn’t even gone for a koku!” she protested, trying to breathe through the sudden onslaught.
Berated, he let her go, looking into her face with huge, puppy dog eyes instead, until she melted and pulled him in a sweet embrace.
