Using only one hand, her grip was far too shaky, so she wrapped all ten fingers around the hilt of the small blade and hoped that it would be enough to keep her aim true. She prayed that one bite would be all that it would take.
Her little, golden eyed not-a-child stared up at her with wonder and confusion, questioning her with his not-a-words.
She smiled and tried to hold the tears at bay. None of the men in her life could ever stand to see the salty droplets running down her face, so she had learned to suppress them many years ago. "Mommy needs to sleep."
His tiny lower lip trembled at the first tinge of her sadness.
"It's time to sleep, baby." She mumbled, trying to soothe his fears while steadying instrument in her hands. "Tomorrow is a new day."
The sharpened double-edge slipped between her ribs like water through a bed of rocks, and she felt a flash of heat rush into her heart. Inuyasha's growling not-a-cries filled the air of her bedroom, and Izayoi forced a smile. "Mommy's only...sleeping."
