Here I was getting psyched about getting to go do stuff, fly around, get data...

Just got news that my grandfather passed away this afternoon. The guy that I was named after is no longer with us. He had been pleading to be released for a while now, his body decayed and weak. And now he's free.

While it is always a sad thing to see a loved one go, in this case, perhaps it was for the best.

Rar, thank you. I can't say I have the faith fueled optimism of some of my family, but its probably better for him not to have had to suffer longer.

I'm sorry for your loss, James. From what you write it sounds like it was overdue for him, but that doesn't necessarily make it easier for his loved ones and survivors.
