You know what??? I think I know now why most of my female characters' clothes look like they're just variations of existing characters' clothes. I just don't know what women wear ( Read more... )

Actually... that blouse looks pretty similar to what a lot of my girls wear too. And most of my characters, male and female both, don't have that much variety in the way of their clothing. I think Chi wears the most "cute, girly clothes," and the others wear simple dresses or black pants and shirts... sometimes camisole-type tops. I don't put that much focus on clothes, so it comes out pretty monotonous. :p

Maybe I can provide some photos or drawings that might help you at some point. I'll see if I can find the time. I've been meaning to draw my girls a bit more anyway.

Hehe... Yeah. Chi is girlier than most of your other girls.

Nah, me neither. It's just that I don't feel comfortable not giving my characters the proper clothes sometimes. even if it's in my head

Most girls I know wear blouses like that (in various colours) when it's cool outside and things like this or this when it's warmer.

I avoid the problem altogether by never taking the time to describe clothing in detail. I don't like detailed descriptions myself, so I try to avoid them, only permitting myself a few words to describe a person and their outfit.

That blouse, for instance, (it's awesome, btw) I would probably only describe as "Dark. Longsleeved. Small ruffles around the collar and wrists." With maybe a mention of the buttons if I couldn't help myself (though, those are ugly buttons. I think they should be round and pearly). Sometimes I have a more detailed picture of an outfit, but I don't describe it based on my own preferences, and the fact that if a reader has any imagination at all, they will probably just make up there own idea of what a character looks like. I do. Sometimes I have a nearly complete image of a person as soon as I read their name and some dialogue.

Nah, I've never really described them in a story before with extreme description. It's just that I don't feel comfortable not giving my characters the proper clothes sometimes. even if it's in my head. My 'verse is a place where I keep my mind sharp. Sometimes when your characters don't have other clothes than the one that you usually imagine them to have, it seems less real, which is a no no for me. SO this is pretty much a selfish request. :P

THanks for the thoughts though. :3
