So what have I been doing? Making jewellery mostly. Experimenting with reproducing historical jewellery (mostly for Odyssey), and making odd stuff out of tiny bottles. I've managed to sell a few bits at LARP events too.

something similar to that. apparently its distressingly common with several models of dell laptop. Unfortunately it's completely killed the battery so it won't actually turn on now, as it doesn't recognise the power supply.
Thinking of buying a new battery for it and seeing if that'll help, or at least let me turn it on so I can try and sort it out.

Does it power up with the PSU plugged in but with the battery removed? It should. Have you plugged the multimeter on the PSU output to check it is providing the correct voltage? It could be that the power brick is broken. I'd start looking at the output size where the cable joins the brick, it was always a bit dodgy there.

it doesn't turn on with just the power supply. it flashes an error message asking me to shut it down because it doesn't recognise it.
I don't have a multimeter...
and yes, the cable attached to the brick is looking rather dodgy.

Ah, I still occasionally have the beer ID problem too... though they seem to let it go when I say "but I'm 27!"

I assume today was quite a bit warmer in Essex :-)
