to import or not import?

Mar 31, 2010 20:00

Dear tech savy peeps,
It seems like it would make sense to import my LJ into my DW, but the site was very clear to warn me that this cannot be undone! and so now I'm wondering if I'm missing something?  Should I not import?
Thanks.

Sure you can undo it, you'd just have to delete a whole lot of imported entries!

I imported mine as a simple backup and left the entries all private; I don't intend to make the imported entries public because I don't want to split conversations and all links go to LJ not DW. However it depends on how you intend to use DW & LJ, I guess.

I think the main reason it warns you is that if you decided later "OMG! I did not want to import! I wanted to start all over with a blank journal!" you would not be able to undo the import easily. Or I suppose if for some reason it didn't import correctly you wouldn't be able to automagically undo it (if that were to happen, which I think is unlikely, I'd recommend reporting it to DW support and I'm sure they'd get to it fast ( ... )

Ok, I'm importing, but I will mark all the entries as private. That way, I still have the info and can eventually leave LJ, but I don't create any issues with entires being public on DW that weren't meant to be.
Thanks.

Actually, it imported all my settings-private, flocked, filtered, etc., so I will just keep it that way.
