I stole this from
names0fthedead. Feel free to steal it from me. Or not. Whatever suits you. =)
1. What did you do in 2011 that you'd never done before?
-I was someone's (Amelia's) only source of food for 6 months. This is simultaneously lame and awesome.
-I witnessed a birth.
-I used my first aid training and did not panic until several hours afterward.
-I ate oysters on the half-shell. (Thanks, Pat!)
2. Did you keep your goals/resolutions for 2011?
This time last year I was entirely too sleep-deprived to make any goals.
3. What was your favorite moment of the year?
Oh, man. It's a coin toss between 3 million things Amelia learned in her first year, or the birth of my nephew.
4. What was your least favorite moment of the year?
Baby blues can eat me. Having a gouge in my cornea was hellish as well.
5. What countries or states did you visit?
I barely left my town this year. I am not proud of this.
6. What would you like to have in 2012 that you lacked in 2011?
More patience. More confidence.
7. What date(s) from 2011 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
One again... my nephew's birth. It's an experience I can not begin to describe.
I got to spend an afternoon with my extended family, all of whom I had not seen in years.
Also, the past few days. Josh and I went to Philly to visit Pat and Susan, and it was glorious. (Protip: Susan and I should never be allowed in the same kitchen unsupervised.)
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Uhh... I survived year 1 of motherhood?
9. How did you celebrate Thanksgiving?
22 people crammed around a table in a glorified double-wide trailer. Do I need to go into details?
10. How did you celebrate Christmas/Yule/Festivus/insert winter holiday here?
Chanukah was quiet and peaceful and lovely. We made latkes and lit candles and talked to Amelia about other winter holidays she'll be exposed to in her life. I think she was much more interested in wrapping paper.
We made the rounds of the Christmas-celebrating relatives (read: everyone but us), which was pretty drama-free.
98ish% of holiday knitting was completed. My Dad loves his new socks. I'm thrilled.
Finally, we took Chanukah to Pat and Susan in Philly. I miss them and want to go back.
11. Whose behavior merited celebration?
Josh, Justin & Kayla, my parents, my in-laws... Actually, I can not think of anyone in my life who did NOT do something admirable and awesome this year.
12. What was the best new thing you got?
The opportunity to visit London this coming Spring.
11. What did you pine for, but never get?
Nothing comes to mind.
14. Where did most of your money go?
Baby stuff. Rent.
15. What did you get really excited about?
Philly and London! (Still pretty fucking excited about London.) Amelia learned some sign language! Hell, Amelia learned a bunch of cool shit. Ernie and Ai came to visit!
16. What songs will always remind you of 2011?
I don't want to live on the moon, from Sesame Street (What? It's Amelia's favorite lullaby.)
Ordinary Day - Great Big Sea
17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
I. Happier or sadder? happier
II. Thinner or fatter? thinner, I think
III. Richer or poorer? the same
18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Keeping in touch with friends! I was a hermit this year.
19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Worrying and generally being a concentrated ball of stress.
21. Did you fall in love?
I fall in love with Josh all over again at least once a month.
22. What concerts did you attend?
None. It's a shame, as I love live shows. Maybe this year,
23. What were your greatest musical discoveries?
Amanda Palmer
24. What were your favorite new movies of 2011?
True Grit, definitely. And Winter's Bone (I think this might be a 2010 film, but I don't care.)
25. What were the best books you read?
Lonesome Dove by Larry McMurtry, and My Dark Places by James Ellroy
26. What were your favorite new TV programs?
Don't watch TV
27. Is there anything you would change about 2011?
No. Parenthood is fucking hard, but it's also a constant learning experience.
28. Who/What kept you sane in 2011?
Josh and Pat and (sometimes) my Mom and Jeanne. Knitting. Long baths.
29. Did anyone you know die in 2011?
No.
30. Did anyone you know get married this year?
Mike and Lisa
31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I was 29, and the only part of the day I really remember is going to Spats for lunch
32. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2011?
Jeans and a t-shirt, with either birks or sneakers.
Yeah, send the folks from Vogue over to my house, lemme tell ya.
33. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned:
It is absolutely all right to ask for help when you need it.
34. Did you move in 2011? If so, to where?
Nope. We kicked around the idea, but it doesn't make sense right now.
35. Did you make any career changes in 2011?
Nyet
36. What political issues stirred you the most?
Marriage equality, natch. Abortion rights. Capital punishment. These are the Usual Suspects for me.
37. Who are the new friends you made this year?
The ladies in my knitting group are pretty kick-ass.
38. Name one thing about 2011 that changed your life:
I'm going to go with being present at my nephew's birth, as it was the inspiration behind my plans to become a birth doula.
39. What are your goals/plans for 2012?
Goals:
-I’m turning 30 in June. I would like to take this year and learn how to like myself.
-I want to start exercising regularly. Belly dance looks like the shit.
-Continue eating well. My 1-year-old is a great motivator.
-I have decided to become a birth doula (okay, I decided this a while ago but have kept it mostly secret b/c I’m afriad people with think it’s dumb.) This Fall I will go to a training workshop!
-Now that my little one is weaned, I am going to start the process of getting a breast reduction. I wear an L-cup now, which is ridiculous. (It feels ridiculous to me, anyway. I want less back pain, and more undergarment options.)
40. How will did you celebrate the New Year?
I'll be taking care of a sick Josh and hanging out on Google+
