I especially liked the benevolent Lord of the Dead, serene but obviously in control in his position. Very much agree that the original story yearns for that tragedy, but it's good to see this work out, especially since the revelation of mutual love is followed so quickly by the lover's death.

Oh! Just realized that you weren't putting her name down at the start because it's being told in retrospect when that name is already gone. Nicely done.
