ROCK

At twenty years old, JD Morgan felt almost invincible. He had his own Harley Davidson, a couple of good friends, and time to ride the open road. His parents never seemed too worried about where he was which meant he inevitably ended up in trouble. Tonight was no different. He, Mickey and Tommy were racing out of Slater's - a bar on the outskirts of town - after a friendly game of pool with a couple of bikers had turned nasty. JD hadn't known that the two men rode as part of the Phoenix Hell's Angels, or that they'd happily murder both him and his friends without even blinking an eye. Tommy was on a Ducati, Mickey behind JD on his Harley, and they busted ass out of there as fast as their engines allowed.

The Angels chased them for a good ten miles, then, without any reason that JD could see, they both swung around and raced off in the opposite direction. He didn't realise why until he saw the cracks of light in the mirror, blue and red flashing in time with the siren that he could barely hear. Mickey held on tighter, knowing JD would have no intention of slowing down. He didn't. He opened the throttle to its limit and listened to the blood pounding in his ears as his bike ate up the road. Tommy was right on his tail and he glanced at the mirror to see the distance opening up between the bikes and the cop car.

He didn't see what happened in that instant. Wasn't sure even Tommy knew. But one moment he had the light of Tommy's bike at his back and the next he was swerving to a stop, turning to stare in horror at the wreckage of the Ducati as it carried on skidding across the road. They later found out that Tommy had hit something, some dip in the road, and had veered across both lanes and straight into the huge wall of boulders that lined one side of it. He'd come off the bike before it bounced off the rock and ended up on the opposite side.

The accident left Tommy with a noticeable scar, a tough reputation and a newfound appreciation for the danger of the road.
