Pros and Cons of Friends Only?

I've been thinking about setting this journal to Friends Only, and I wondered why those of you who have it, chose to have it? I just don't want anyone to read about my life anymore.. I don't know. I'm definitely gonna set my Facebook to private...

I don't mind random people reading about my life at all, but I'm paranoid about people I know/potential employers reading my stuff (I always feel like I have to censor myself with people I know irl, so I've got a rl filter on my lj as well...don't use it that often but it feels nice to have that sort of control), and there was something in the news a while ago about how a ton of companies search social networking sites for profiles of applicants and reject them if they find anything compromising :S

Hm I only gave the link to LJ to one person I know in RL, so I'm not too worried about that. But I am worried about potential companies and stuff... You never know..

i went friends only cos i got harrased alot on line so didn't want people reading about me and my life thats the only reason

and that now i don't want my real life friends to read my journal well one does :| but still

Yeh I'd rather choose who can read it. Now I only need to find a friends only banner, and I can set it right.

Yes, I think that the aspect of someone i really know in real life or some future employer wandering off to my LJ is scary. When I realised that my LJ and my email were the same, I became friends only. And I see no benefit in being open to everyone, for most of the ppl I want reading my LJ are my friends. I'd def go friends only, especially now that you're looking for a job, for you never know....And good luck with the job hunting btw! And my FB has been private for long now also...

True, and people who want to read my journal can leave me a message and I can add them, if there's a point.

I'm just very very paranoid about everything internet-y, for no reason really. I just feel that certain things are meant to be private, and I like to know who can read the things I write/pictures I post etc.
