I'm not saying government is all good... but we wouldn't have gotten to the moon if all government did was patrol the borders and let people inside the borders beat up on those different from the percieved norm.
I can picture the protests now, as Martians are not allowed on Olympus Mons Colony if they don't have US id cards, all the while being ignored when it's pointed out they are Martians, after all.
I had to go look up the Twitter argument when you referenced it on Facebook. Valiantly attempted, but I'm sure you know what they say about arguing on the Internet being like the Special Olympics. :)

Honestly, I wish a quarter of the internet arguments were half as inspiring as the Special Olympics. In one, you have people exceeding limits or at least trying to, finding possibilities where there supposedly aren't any.
In the other, you have people clumsily fumbling about and acting stupid, unaware of how idiotic they look.
