I am not teaching the Ks how to spell grue! They already know how to spell blue and green (even fingerspell and sign) and we are already smooshing too much into their little brains!
That is so cool you're teaching them sign language! You're an awesome teacher! Do you know if other countries have their own form of sign language-or is ASL used worldwide? Of course not the finger spelling with people who use different alphabets, but the signs that represent whole words, or phrases? And speaking of smooshing stuff into their little brains...I was volunteering in the classroom the other day. It is really something to see their little wheels turning when they are just catching on to a new concept or making a new connection. For one little boy I could almost, for a moment, physically see his little brain expanding... And then... he was back to squishing the glue stick between his fingers and wiping it on his neighbor. But for a good ten seconds, I had him!
